The RPG Maker Game I'm working on

I've always been really into rpg maker as a tool, and i've been messing around with it since RPG Maker 2003!

However, to fully develop an rpg maker game from scratch is a massive undertaking for one fellow, and many times in attempting I have failed to continue past very basic concepts.

My goal for this project, is to ultimately finish a game. Something that's tightly designed in pacing and in systems. It doesnt have to be 20 hours, it's doesnt even have to be 3. Just make something that amounts to something.

I guess this is where I'll be posting my process!

What I've done so far:

one of the main thoughts i had when i decided to work on this project was to ignore making any art assets myself, and instead focus primarily on the game design and layout, and actually allow myself to learn how to use variables properly as well as other cool things. whenever i've attempted rpg maker projects in the past it always seemed to get bogged down by the artwork, and it ends up being the main focus of development and before i knew it i was already burnt out, which was really annoying.

so i bit the bullet and bought a retro artwork pack, and it's been really nice to be able to pick from a toybox of things to use, and try to create cool environments and character interactions with what i've been provided.

it's been really refreshing!

anyways, in terms of solid gameplay, what i have so far tows the line of about 20 minutes. the entire game is structured with static screens that are stitched together side by side to create the illusion of a cohesive world, while also providing bite sized immersive sections to enjoy (thats the idea anyways)
